Pomorskie Landscape Parks and its treasures

One of the greatest treasures of Pomorskie are landscape parks, which offer tourists unforgettable experiences and the possibility of active recreation in the bosom of nature. There are nine of them altogether. Each of them is different, each of them is unique, creating a unique ecosystem with distinctive features resulting from, for example, geographical location.

On the territory of Pomorskie there are 9 parks with a total area of almost 168 thousand hectares, of which 7 are completely within the boundaries of the voivodship. They were created in response to the need to protect the landscape from uncontrolled urban development and environmental degradation.

They protect, above all, unique natural, historical and cultural values in order to promote sustainable development. The history of landscape parks dates back to the XVIIIth century, and the idea itself developed after the Second World War. In Poland the first park was established in 1976, while in the Pomorskie region the first landscape park was established on 5 January 1978.

Seaside belt

On the border of the land and the sea there are the Coastal Landscape Park and the Vistula Spit Landscape Park. This unique combination of water and land conditions creates an unparalleled landscape, and the local fauna and flora make a visit to coastal parks even more interesting.

Exploring the park can be planned along both hiking and cycling trails. We have 4 of the first ones to choose from and they are marked in blue, black, red and green. Cyclists will ride the Hanseatic Coastal Route Eurovelo 10/13 and the R10 link in the Hel Peninsula.

In addition, it has an extensive network of marked hiking trails allowing you to plan short walks as well as long-term trips.

Kaszuby

When visiting the vast South Kaszuby, there are 3 parks for nature lovers – Kaszuby, Wdzydze and Slupia Valley Landscape Park. In the first, the great diversity of the terrain is mainly influenced by ranges of moraines leading to the formation of the foothills landscape in places.

Wdzydzki Landscape Park with Wdzydze Lake in the middle will be a paradise for water enthusiasts. Very good accommodation base, marinas and beaches, attract both lovers of active recreation and those looking for laziness on the shore of the lake.

Another park in the list is the Slupia Valley Landscape Park. The name comes from the Slupia River flowing through the park, which is one of the major attractions of this part of the region. There are 4 power plants, 3 of which are located in the park and constitute the Slupia Energy System. An exceptionally attractive way to discover the Slupia Valley is a kayak rafting, during which we can kayak through the picturesque corners of the Landscape Park, and the rafting ends in Ustka on the Baltic Sea. If you choose a bicycle, there is a blue trail of hydroelectric power plants waiting for you. The 65-kilometer route leads along the most energetically used rivers of Central Pomorskie, visiting 6 hydroelectric power plants along the way.

Tuchola Forest

Zaborski Landscape Park, located in the north-western part of Tuchola, is a forest complex with an area of over 340 km2. The Tuchola Forest Biosphere Reserve was originally called Chojnice Forest Biosphere Reserve  and together with the adjacent national park it forms a unique ecosystem on the map of Pomorskie. In addition, the Charzykowskie Lake located on the site makes it a place with special natural and landscape values. It is worth mentioning that the lake is the cradle of sailing in Poland, and Charzykowy Chojnice Sailing Club has been operating since 1922 and is the oldest club in Poland. The vicinity of the Zaborski Landscape Park is also a network of paths and cycling routes of the Kaszuby March Route, which consists of more than 200 km of marked trails.

On the border of voivodeships

Located in the Pomorskie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, Tuchola Landscape Park is a 50th hectare area, 90% of which are forests. Rarely found protected plant species attract wildlife enthusiasts to the place. Without a doubt, one of the biggest attractions of the Tuchola Landscape Park is the aqueduct in Fojutwo, which is a special structure enabling the crossing of two waterways. Staying on the water, it is worth mentioning the picturesque stretches of the Brda River, along which kayaking is organized. In the Park there are also marked hiking and cycling trails, which are the most popular form of sightseeing.
