During the existence of the city’s fortification, the gate was located between the Lion and Ox bastions.
The gate owes its brick decor to Herman Knusta. The preserved decorations include the two medallions located above the side portals, which depict Roman leaders. The inside of the upper floor is home to the renovated Gdańsk coat of arms and two empty niches, which used to host the figures of Diana and Bellona – the symbols of peace and war.
