The Church of the Exaltation of the Cross in Tczew

This parish church has its roots in the 13th Century. The temple thrived during the Teutonic Order’s supremacy over this region. It is at that time it took the form it has been renowned for up to modern times. At first glance it intimidates tourists with its raw quality, the asceticism of red brick and vertical lanceted windows. Its interior, on the other hand, abounds in the splendid array of forms and wealth of detail. Its superb decor can pride itself with the majestic high altar from the 17th Century and some recently-discovered unique Gothic frescos portraying female Saints.
