The Townhouse of Reich and Birnbaum in Gdynia

It was built in 1936 designed by a Cracow architect Edward Furshmiedt for two Warsaw merchants. The townhouse combines features of late functionalism of cubic forms with the luxurious mainstream of the 30s. The tenement townhouse has a very well preserved, luxuriously finished staircase (part of the staircase can be seen through the glass door). The decor of the lateral parts of the two facades is band-textured, with group windows covered in convex plaster strips, a shade darker from the brightly toned whole. Ground floor, by contrast, has dark horizontal bands of rustication in the artificial stone type “terrabona”. The building is one of the elements of Gdynia Modernism Route, located on Route 1.
