Less than forty kilometres south-west of Gdansk, there is a land full of high hills, deep, long depressions with picturesque lakes and beech forests. We are talking about the area around Przywidz, which lies on the outskirts of Kashuby and the tourist region of Kaszuby Switzerland.
Although we will not find a concentration of monuments and tourist attractions here, these areas are ideal for spending time actively in all forms throughout the year.
Przywidz and Przywidzkie Lake
After the World War I, the areas of today’s Przywidz commune were incorporated into the Free City of Gdansk. The advantages of Przywidz as a summer resort were noticed at that time, defining it as a “Luftkurort” – an air resort. Today, there is a guarded bathing area on the lake, well suited for family holidays. From here, you can sail out to the water area full of picturesque bays. In the middle, there is an island protected as a forest reserve. You can also walk around the lake or cycle around it on a path that is over 8 km long. You must also stop at the legendary stronghold located on a high peninsula.
Getting lost in Bliziny
The owners of the World of Labyrinths in Bliziny try to surprise their visitors every year. The maze in the corn field is designed anew every year by the world-famous puzzle creator Adrian Fisher. It opens around mid-July. It is accompanied by wooden labyrinths and a number of small labyrinths that allow children and adults to spend time here.
Cycling through the hills
There are as many as five local cycling trails marked in the area. All of them are in the form of a loop starting in Przywidz. They lead through the highest elevations in Kashuby around the Szymbarskie Hills, through deep glacial channels and former metallurgical villages. However, you have to be prepared for a lot of uphill and downhill climbs. The information sights are quite good.
Where else for an afternoon walk?
Little-known but picturesque places include the Reknica River Valley below the village of Marszewo, as well as Lakie Lake west of Trzepowo.
