The lighthouse was also a pilot tower and was equipped with an extraordinary instrument that was the time sphere.
The construction of the lighthouse was completed on October 31, 1893.
Since 2008 a replica of the sphere has been showing time just like in the old days.
In 2004, the lighthouse was opened to visitors. Inside you can admire preserved old historical optical devices and a lighthouse exhibition.
The top of the structure provides an amazing view of Gdańsk Harbour, Westerplatte, and the entire Gdańsk Bay, as far as to Gdynia and Hel.
This is a seasonal facility.
The Nowy Port Lighthouse is associated with the beginning of World War II, when on September 1, 1939, Germany started World War II with shots from it and from the battleship “Schleswig-Holstein” towards the Polish Westerplatte.
