There are rock layers exposed by the Baltic waves at the exit of the gorge, on the bank with heights up to 50 metres. The gorge is located within the Pomeranian Heritage Park. A long time ago, the Chałpowo Valley (usually referred to as a gorge) and the Swarzewo landscape spread – according to certain authors – 8 to 16 kilometres to the north, i.e. the area currently occupied by the Baltic Sea, the waves of which attacked the land (abrasion) and caused the shoreline to move to the altitude of today. Research has shown that the Baltic Sea devours an average of 0.8 m of land per year.
