The settlement of the ancient Slavs is a place that allows you to feel the atmosphere of bygone times!
Past – present – future
These are the three words that best reflect the idea behind this project. In the early 11th century, there was a stronghold here, which, until the 1970s, was hidden beneath the sand, concealing the passage of time. Thanks to the initiative of local activists and enthusiasts of the region, a living museum was created in the form of a reconstructed hillfort, once inhabited by the first Polans.
For many centuries, the stronghold in Owidz was only a testimony to the rich history of these areas, existing mainly in the minds of historians and enthusiasts fascinated by the medieval era. Today, history has come full circle, as you are witnessing a reconstruction that is undoubtedly one of the proud attractions of Kociewie.
On a glacial elevation, almost the only tangible evidence of the existence of an early medieval settlement, there was a series of buildings were constructed surrounded by wooden fortifications.
This is a must-visit spot on the tourist map of Pomerania. It’s a place full of life, often overlooked in books and textbooks commonly found in history lessons.
- You will have the opportunity not only to relax in a unique and pleasant atmosphere but also to “absorb” a solid dose of the history of the surrounding area, its era, and the people who lived here. All of this is presented in a natural way by the vibrant team at Grodzisko Owidz.
- The tour of the hillfort will take place in the company of experts and enthusiasts of historical reconstruction, people who will passionately share all their knowledge with you and perhaps even ignite a love for history strong enough to inspire you to follow in their footsteps.
- You may know them from the largest medieval battle reenactment in Europe – the Battle of Grunwald. Every year, they not only participate in it but also organize the event, ensuring the quality of the spectacle and historical accuracy, rooted in the knowledge and passion they have cultivated.
