The rich history of Powisle has influenced the variety of dishes served on the tables of the inhabitants of this region. In this aspect, the multiculturalism of the region is certainly a huge asset. The canon of traditional dishes includes both the cuisine served by the inhabitants of Powisle before 1945 and in the post-war period.

From the history of Powisle cuisine

The centuries-old culinary traditions of Powisle survived the change of borders in 1945 and the exodus of a significant part of the region’s inhabitants. During the Polish People’s Republic, the indigenous people who remained here were happy to share dishes served on Powisle tables from years ago. Among them was Irena Szturo, a resident of Sztum from birth. She ran numerous culinary workshops in Powisle. Thanks to them, many housewives learned the flavours of Powisle.
