The Szpęgawski Forest
The trees that grow in this forest bore silent witness to a tragedy which unfolded here early into World War II.
The Szpęgawski Forest was the last earthly sight afforded to the 7 thousand residents of Kociewie and the neighbouring lands, who were murdered here by the Nazis. Most of the victims came from the Polish intelligentsia - they were social and political activists - but the murdered also included mentally-ill patients from the nearby asylum in Kocborowo.
