The Manor in Bychowo

In the 15th Century, the property was taken over by a family originating from Pomerania – von Büchow of the Zadora coat of arms. This was probably the time when the home of the owners was built and the entire property was expanded. It can be assumed that the first manor in Bychowo was built in the 16th or 17th Century. During the next centuries, the Bychowo property often changed owners, which was not beneficial to further development. We can only speak of a certain continuity of possession in the 18th Century, when Bychowo was owned by the von Lubtow family.

The scant source materials indicate that the current manor was built in the second half of the 19th Century. During World War II, the manor, grange and park developments were partially destroyed; it was completely demolished during the nineteen fifties and sixties. In 1989, the ruins of the manor were sold by the Gniewino commune to the new owner – Władysław Brzozowski. The building was torn down to its foundations and restructured on the basis of the construction assessment and photographic documentation. The portico with an antique balustrade was preserved in its original form.

Today, the manor is a hotel. The guests can enjoy 8 one and two-person rooms, 2 three-person rooms, 2 four-person rooms and 3 apartments. The rooms are equipped with bathrooms, satellite TV, telephones and internet connection. The hotel also has volleyball and badminton courts and a pool table. There are mountain bikes available for rent. There are sleigh rides during the winter and chaise rides in the summer. Fans of horseback riding can see the picturesque surroundings of Bychowo from the saddle. The centre offers horseback riding lessons and pony rides for children. The children can also visit the petting zoo and feed the animals. There is a historical park just behind the manor, stretching along the bank of the stream. It is composed of old trees, led by a 450-year-old oak. You can also take a walk on the old hornbeam alley.
